Earth day also known as Jour de la Terre here in Quebec, takes place
every year to raise awareness and to appreciate the Earth's natural
environment. More than 250,000 thousand people took to the streets of
Montreal to celebrate. The march showed that there are many
environmental problems facing Quebec, including the oil and gas
exploration in St Lawrence. People including myself, have a shared
concern about what kind of future we are going to leave for our children
and grandchildren. Canada's recent move has left people furious and
thousands have signed a petition for them to reverse their decision to
withdraw from the Kyoto Protocol. The Kyoto Protocol was adopted in
Kyoto, Japan in 1997 and was designed to reduce the amount of four
greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide, sulphur
hexafluoride in each country and for each country to take
responsibility and reduce what they are putting into the Earth. Quebec
is the only province that has had a decrease in green house gases from

withdrawal from Kyoto and the people believe the government should pay
